Meditation – The Science of Silence
Meditation, an ancient practice, originated in India thousands of years ago. It was designed to train the mind to achieve a state of calm awareness, inner transformation, and higher consciousness.
What is calm awareness? It is a mental state in which your mind is completely relaxed yet fully alert and observant. Calm awareness is the core goal of meditation, allowing you to experience the present moment without getting swept away by your thoughts. Calm awareness has two components:
- During meditation, the body and the emotions are in a state of calmness. This means the mind’s chatter is decreased, the nervous system is settled down to a state of rest, and the heart rate slows down. This is when you feel a deep sense of inner peace, safety, and stability. And
- During meditation, the mind is in a state of complete awareness, which means as the mental chatter reduces, the mind becomes sharper, clearer, and fully awake. You are completely conscious of your thoughts, senses, and surroundings without feeling sleepy or dissociated.
What is inner transformation? A profound and lasting shift in a person’s psychological framework, emotional patterns, and fundamental perspective on life. It is a structural change in how you experience yourself and the world around you. The main shifts are
- From reaction to response
- Dropping the need for external validation
- Increased self-awareness.
- Change in the worldview from lack and fear to abundance and peace.
What is the state of higher consciousness? It’s a state in which the mind shifts beyond ordinary daily thoughts, allowing profound awareness, unity, and mental clarity. In this state, you notice your thoughts and feelings without judging them, and you feel a deep connection to everything around you.
The different levels of Consciousness:
| Level of Consciousness | Characteristics | Mental Focus |
| Normal Consciousness | Awake, processing daily tasks, dealing with stress and sensory input. | Scattered and reactive |
| Deep Meditation | Calm, focused on a single point or open presence, reduced internal chatter | Centred and still |
| Higher Consciousness | Deep insight, total unity, lasting inner peace, and elevated clarity. |
